Let’s turn your scraps into fabric wrap and table linens! We’ll be using a traditional Korean style of patchwork called bojagi. Bojagi has connections to blessings of fortune, longevity, and good health. It’s used for wrapping and food covering, and can be made into somehting as large as a window covering. Bojagi is a single fabric made of joined scraps, using a double-sided seam. In garment making, you might recognize this as a flat-felled seam. This tutorial show you how to make a log cabin style piece, where there is a centre square and fabric is added in a concentric fashion to grow the cloth outward.
Traditionally bojagi is pieced by hand, but it is acceptable to use a machine to do the same thing. If you would like to learn more about bojagi, I encourage you to check out Choi Yangsook’s book, Korean Patchwork Quilting (affiliate link).
