Special Guest: Artist Kate Ward

In this live workshop, Andrea teaches you what the big deal is with HRTs (half-rectangle triangles). How are they different from half-square triangles (HSTs)? Why are they more difficult? She walks you through common mistakes, different types of HRTs, and two different approaches to constructing them with this fun 20" Kite Festival block. You will be able to add HRTs to your quilter's toolbox and whip it out at a moment's notice. Suitable for confident beginner quilters to intermediate/advanced quilters.

We will be using Andrea's Kite Festival block pattern to learn about HRTs ($10 value), but class fee includes access to Andrea's Common Ground digital quilt pattern ($16 value).

This livestream workshop will use the Zoom platform. Access link and complete supply list will be provided upon registration. PDF patterns will be emailed one week in advance of the workshop.

Textile artist Kate Ward will show us some ideas about adding decorative stitches to the block!

Andrea’s class provides a unique dive into geometry via quilting. Her expert insight guides students through the principles of precision piecing, pattern management, and the interesting challenges that come with HRTs. Her lighthearted approach made the class relaxing and enjoyable, it was filled with eureka moments and pro tips for an intermediate learner.

So much fun! Learned so much. Andrea presented the math of HRTs in a way the non-mathematically inclined could understand so you can make any proportion half- rectangle from tall and skinny to short and wide. Andrea is a lovely person and it was so pleasant to get acquainted.
